After two years of mediocrity, Tsuburaya decided it was time to move past remaking older series and do something truly original, titling their next adventure Ultraman Blazar. Keigo Koyanagi was hired as head writer. Series director Kiyotaka Taguchi compared Blazar to Ultraman Gaia despite it not being titled New Generation Gaia as Trigger and Decker had been New Generation Tiga and Dyna. His reasoning behind this was because he felt there was no way he could ever tell a better story than what Gaia had provided, so it was frivolous to do such. And thus, Blazar would be an entirely new series built from the ground up without relying on any past series to help sell it. Does Taguchi’s decision pay off? Or should Tsuburaya have just followed what was the formula they were working with? Watch to find out.
