In 1972, a Tokusatsu series in a similar vein to Ultraman premiered on Japanese televsion and quickly went into obscurity after it was canceled 26 weeks later. Some believe the show was hated so much by its creator Osamu Tezuka, the father of manga, that the masters were destroyed at his request so no one could ever watch it again, leaving only eight episodes that had been recorded off TV as its only proof that it ever existed at all.
