In the final episode of Kamen Rider, Hongo and Ichimonji confronted the Great Shocker Leader, unmasking him Scooby Doo style, and then he fell over, blowing up the entire base, signaling the end of Gel Shocker. Or so it seemed. There were multiple ideas circling in the heads of Toei, show runner Masaru Igami, among others on how to proceed with the show. Initially, they were going to make FBI agent Taki Kamen Rider 3 and have him become the main star of the show, only to scrap those plans and repurpose episodes 99 and 100 into the premier for their next series. The name of this next iteration became Kamen Rider V3, for Version 3. Also, the producers felt V3 made the name more interesting compared to just calling it Kamen Rider 3. And thus, Igami began writing a brand-new series, kicking off Kamen Rider’s tradition of changing titles and themes on a consistent basis. Was Kamen Rider V3 a nice change of pace from its predecessor, or just more of the same? Watch to find out!
