Without any rhyme or reason, the Kamen Rider franchise was put on an extended hiatus after the completion of Kamen Rider Black Rx. There was a trilogy of feature films, but for some reason no full-length series was present throughout the 90s. It is believed the lack of Kamen Rider was due to the successful Metal Heroes, at least, initially and that Kamen Rider returned to the airwaves when the ratings of the Metal Heroes franchise plummeted into unacceptable territory. No matter the case, Kamen Rider entered a new age in January of 2000 when Toei hired writer Naruhisa Arakawa to bring the franchise back to the top.
