Back in 2009, Toei had celebrated the tenth anniversary of Heisei Kamen Rider shows with a series that featured the heroes that had come before it. It was an ambitious project that many felt fumbled the ball in the long run. Nevertheless, the very idea was ingenious so much so that Toei decided to try the concept again for the 35th anniversary series of Super Sentai, which they titled Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger. This series featured a ranger team that was a band of pirates who pirate the powers of the previous 34 teams as their own through a series of keys that would also transform them into that team’s costumes.
